Until the arrival of modern health care and potent readily available pharmaceutical drugs the only medicines available were found in local woods, meadows or gardens. Plant medicines have been well documented for over 5000 years. There is evidence that many mammals will seek out and eat particular plants when they feel ill. Traces of medicinal herbs like yarrow and marshmallow have been found in Neanderthal graves of 65,000 yrs. ago.
Our western tradition of Herbal Medicine is derived from Greek and Roman practise. Today mainstream herbal medicine has also embraced Ayurvedic and Traditional Chinese medicine.
